Pelo Malo, Confessions of a Kinky Haired Sister

Gorgeous haired ppl in my life - # 1 J.S.M

One person who always been telling me to grow out my hair is my Best Friend Jessica. We known each other since sophomore year in high school and been best friends since. She is half Puerto Rican and Black and she always had the crazy hair going on. Never relaxed she always wear it out and she knows how to rock it so well. Everyone loves the look and she is complimented even on days she just gets up and goes. She is an artist, a social butterfly, has tons of friends that adore her and now a certified photographer! Congrats to her graduating from New England School of Photography 2011! Even tho she is a Certified Photographer everyone loves taking pictures of her including me! (I have tons of pictures of her lol!) She is photogenic and knows how to handle that hair! Go Sora! <3 You can check out her photo blog she is working on. JSM Photography

Introducing.... Me!

Hi everyone! My name is Diana and I'm very glad your here reading my first blog! I decided to do this blog because as most of you that are here I'm growing out my hair from years of chemicals! I actually just started growing out my hair for 6 months already without doing the big chop (I don't think I have the face for short hair). With the help of the internet, everyone's pictures, blogs and videos has been giving me the strength to deal with my hair texture. My title "Puerto Rican Gone Natural" is because i haven't seen a blog yet about a Puerto Rican going natural just an article. I was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, the rest of my family were born in Puerto Rico. As i was growing up i had a hard time dealing with my own hair. My hair is mixed, I dont know much about my ancestors but my mother has frizzy, wavy hair and my father had kinky thick hair ( He had an afro, he is bald now). As for my great grandparents from what I recall when I did the free trial of Ancestry.com; in the early 1900's;  parents of my great grandparents were classified as Black on their census because of their dark complexion. I think my hair is a 3c? I'm still learning about my hair. Anyway, I was a very insecure little girl and wanted nice long hair like the other girls in school so i begged my mother to do a relaxer on me. She finally did after i graduated elementary school and i been living on it since. Now at the age of 27, I finally decided to go natural because I started going to the gym and i been spending money every week to get my hair washed and set was a waste plus I wanted to know my natural hair. I never knew it would be so hard, the first few month was hell! I didn't know what to do with my hair! It was like i had gone off crack or something! I even went back to my hairdresser/friend Maribel to have at least a Texturizer but I'm very grateful Maribel refused and is helping me go through transition. I hate having it in a bun but it will just have to do sometimes for a while I will be posting up blogs, pictures and possibly videos (Since i'm a bit video shy) of things i am incorporating in my hair to see how it works on me.  Again, thank you all for checking out my blog, feel free to comment or ask questions. =)

This is where i said I NEED A RELAXER!!!
